In this storybook, Sam is a very different man. His upstairs is downstairs, his downstairs is upstairs. His dog, Fluffy, meows, and his cat, Spot, barks. But Sam is happy with his mixed-up life until Aunt Edna comes for a visit. She wants to change everything in Sam’s house to the way it should be. That is, until Aunt Edna realizes that a meowing dog and a barking cat could make them rich and famous. But things do not go Aunt Edna’s way and she leaves. Sam is happy to return to his mixed-up house.
Mixed-Up Sam is a story based on the concepts of word opposites, possessive words, and reinforces the concept that it is okay to be different. There are many activities to teach these concepts that involve physical movement, drawing, writing, and storytelling that students will enjoy while also learning.
